Hello Fall, My Old Friend!

As I say goodbye to summertime business like spending time outdoors with family and friends away from my home, I start to crave the coziness that comes with making my home feel warm, inviting and uniquely me. Now listen, I like summer, but I am a HUGE lover of fall and all that the season has to offer. Nothing makes me happier than a warm coffee, wrapped in a blanket on my couch, football playing on the television, a stew cooking in the kitchen and candle lit. But to create that feeling and joy, my space needs to match suit. So let’s talk about one way to bring fall into your home!

For seasonal decorating I like to start with key items for each room first and start filling in from there. To create the overall coziness that comes with fall, I like to incorporate pieces such as textures, patterns, wood, combine neutral and warm colours and add in layering, which can help create this feeling.

Lets dive into a simple decor style guide with pieces that all flow together to achieve a cozy fall feel in your home!

  1.  Brown Pillow

Who doesn’t love pillows? Start by bringing in a warm toned neutral, like a solid brown pillow. Brown works beautifully because it is versatile. It is neutral enough to mix and match with other colours, yet rich enough to instantly add warmth to create that cozy fall look. Whether you’re styling it in your living room bedroom, neutral pillows set the perfect foundation for layering seasonal decor.

  1. Floral Pillow

Layer with florals. A floral pillow is such a fun way to bring in colour and personality into your room. I am obsessed with floral right now since it can easily be used all year round, yet bold enough to add some character to your space. For fall, I like to lean into burgundy tones and this burgundy floral pillow is the perfect fit. It creates that fall-inspired look by layering it with a neutral pillow.

  1. Throw Blanket

Cozy up with blankets! This patterned frilled throw blanket is a great way to bring both warmth and texture into your home. Throw it over your couch or at the end of your bed to add layering in your room to create an inviting lived-in look.

  1. Pleated Lamp

Add warmth with lighting. I love the uniqueness of the lamp here. The pleated lamp shade is instantly eye-catching and the gold creates softness. Decorative lamps like this are functional yet can be doubled as a statement piece in your room.

  1. Wooden Entryway Table

Style with a wooden entryway table. An entryway table is such a flexible piece for every season. Right now, I’m into darker wood tones as they really are timeless and never go out of style. I love the style of the table, it is sleek, but functional with the addition of the extra shelf at the bottom for storage or for styling. Add a woven basket with a throw blanket or use it to tuck away shoes at the front door.  A piece like this is a key piece that really sets the tone for your home’s design year-round!

  1. Handcrafted Vase

Add in handcrafted decor. On your entryway table, consider adding a beautifully handcrafted vase. I like the muted, neutral tones on the vase as they feel subtle, but still full of character. I have been loving adding in hand crafted pieces into my designs recently because they add that extra bit of personality and uniqueness. Add some seasonal stems or branches, and just like that you have created a simple yet eye-catching focal point in your space!

  1. Seasonal Stems

Incorporate the seasonal stems such as these stunning ones into the handcrafted vase. It adds a splash of colour to the muted vase, all while being on theme.I have been loving these stems because the quality is so good for the price you pay. The aesthetic is on point with the deep red tones adding that perfect touch of fall!

  1. Ribbed Candle

Ok this candle is so simple, but I love the ribbed glass! It just adds that subtle layer of texture to your design. When you’re trying to create warmth in a space, don’t just settle for plain candles. Yes, a candle brings coziness, but choosing one with unique details or texture takes your styling up a notch and adds visual interest to the room.

  1. Pumpkin

Of course, it wouldn't fall without a pumpkin! I’m loving this set of four pumpkins in different sizes. They’re the perfect seasonal accent for your home or front porch. When decorating, try not to go overboard with every Halloween piece you’ve collected over the years. Too many decorations can feel cluttered and disrupt the flow of your space. Instead, add in a few carefully chosen pieces throughout your home. Maybe swap out some bright orange pumpkins for these neutral ones! They still give off Halloween vibes but elevate your overall design in a subtle way.

Transitioning your home for fall doesn’t have to mean a full makeover. You can easily incorporate items that you currently own with intention or add in a few additional key items like a cozy blanket, seasonal stems, candles, neutral pumpkins and more! Designing with intention will be your best tactic when decorating your home for fall so that your space doesn’t feel overwhelming. The key is starting with a colour palette, choosing shades that feel right for the season and finding pieces that flow together.

Happy decorating!
